1. Hi! Please introduce yourself to those who might not know you.
Hi!! We are an all girl pop punk band called Meet Me @ The Altar!! We met online in 2015, and have been chasing our dreams together ever since.
2. Looking back, when did you first know that being a musician was your dream? Was there a person, artist, or experience that helped solidify it?
We both come from very musical families, so I’d say we always knew that we loved music and might want to pursue it. Growing up, I was heavily involved in music whether that be singing in church, the school choir, or even taking violin lessons. I didn’t know I wanted to be in a band though until I was around 14 years old. I was on YouTube and stumbled upon Bring Me The Horizon’s “Can You Feel My Heart” music video. I FELL IN LOVE!!!! A split second after that, I found Peirce The Veil’s “King For A Day” music video. I was in awe. That day, I discovered and fell in love with a whole entire world I didn’t even know existed. That’s the moment I knew I wanted to be in a band. I started getting heavily involved in the scene, going to at least 2 shows a week, and at least 3 Warped Tours a summer! - Edith
3. What’s been the biggest challenge navigating the music industry as a non-male band? How do you believe it's affected your career?
Being a non-male band, we have trouble with new listeners not taking us seriously and thinking we're an industry plant or that we don't know what we're doing because we're "just some young girls." It really pushes us to be true to who we are and be confident on stage because it feels incredible to prove them wrong. - Ada
4. You came into the scene at a time when fans were craving more diversity in pop-punk. How has your relationship with the genre evolved since you started?
Although my love for the scene becomes greater and greater as I grow older, my relationship with it is quite complex. We came into the scene when people were craving more diverse identities. The importance of representation was at an all time high. It was such a specific moment in time that was very beautiful to see. Sadly, I do believe that the demand for a more diverse space has diminished since the early 2020 days. Now more than ever I find myself wondering if I fit in, wondering if I’m good enough. Thinking that I might be “too much” or too different. Whenever I have these negative thoughts, I think about all of the lovely supporters we’ve met over the years that told us how we made them feel seen, helped them feel like they belong. That is what keeps me going every day. -Edith
5. You just released your latest single “Strung Out.” What was the creative process behind the track, and how does it reflect where the band is right now?
I co-wrote “Strung Out” with our biggest collaborator Mike Green, who we also wrote our latest EP “Worried Sick” with. Mike and I are truly a match made in heaven! The past two years of our career have been gut wrenching to say the least. I’ve never experienced betrayal and heartbreak to this level before. The industry can make you feel like a pawn or a piece of trash. Unimportant, replaceable, forgettable, washed up. Because of this, I found myself using writing as a form of therapy, hoping to discover some sort of peace amidst all of the drastic changes we were experiencing. “Strung Out” explores self-loathing emotions for being unable to forget someone despite being betrayed, hurt, and angry. It explores how lingering attachment and anger are often mixed. You want to hate them. You want to forget them. But you can't. - Edith
6. Does “Strung Out” offer a glimpse into what's next for Meet Me at the Altar? Can fans expect more new music on the horizon?
“Strung Out” is a fantastic glimpse into what’s next for us! New music 100%! Our next single “Pain In My Chest” is set to come out on July 24th!
7. You're about to wrap up “The Worried Sick Summer Tour” in August, what's been the biggest lesson or unexpected takeaway from life on the road?
We’ve been touring basically non-stop since 2021, so I’m not sure if there are any more unexpected takeaways to experience! One thing I will say though, is that Montreal fucking ROCKS. The first leg of the “Worried Sick Summer Tour” was the first time we’ve ever played Montreal and it did not disappoint. The fans are so fun and passionate. -Edith
8. Warped Tour has been a launching pad for so many artists and a huge part of alt/pop-punk culture. What excites you most about joining this year's lineup? How do you feel about being part of the Gritty In Pink “Gritty Garage” experience?
Being a part of Warped Tour’s iconic lineup is a dream come true! Attending was a staple of our teenage summers. Unfortunately, forming so close to the original run's end, we never thought the possibility of playing was in the cards for us so it's an honor. Being a part of the Gritty In Pink "Gritty Garage" experience is seriously the cherry on top!! We've been following Gritty In Pink for years, and it's a blessing being part of such a welcoming community! - Ada
9. What do you see as the next big step for Meet Me at the Altar? Is there a dream tour, festival, collaboration, or achievement that you think would take the band to new heights?
The next big step for us is definitely our sophomore album! We just started writing it, and we are already so excited for the world to hear. It’s heavy, it’s fun, it’s MM@TA! There are so many dreams we are determined to see come to life. We'd love to play Lollapalooza again, Welcome To Rockville, Louder Than Life, Download and Slam Dunk over in the UK. There are too many dream festivals and tours to name! A big dream collaboration for us will always be Haley Williams, and if she ever entered her rock era again, Willow Smith would be pretty cool too. - Edith
10. Growing up, who were the female artists that made you think, "I want to do this"?
There weren't many women in the scene growing up, so the ones we knew of were held close in our hearts. Hayley Williams, Amy Lee, Fefe Dobson, Jenna Mcdougal, and Avril Lavigne are big role models for us! Even the Disney stars were big for us - Demi Lovato, Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez - they're all rock stars! - Ada
11. If you weren’t a musician, what do you think you’d be doing?
If I wasn't a musician, I’d definitely be in the fashion industry! Second to music, fashion is my favorite thing in the world! I love everything from designing clothes, makeup, hair, nails, etc. Aesthetics are very important to me. I’ve always had a deep connection to it. I plan on launching my own clothing brand sometime in the near future. I have a name, logo, designs ready and everything! I don't think right now is the right time for it though, so for now it'll all just continue living on my ipad. - Edith
If I wasn’t in music I think I’d be doing something in the realm of photography or cinematography. In high school, I dabbled a lot with taking pictures of my friends and making short films. Art is and always will be in my blood. - Ada
12. If Meet Me at the Altar had to cover an entire album front-to-back, what album would you choose?
If we could cover an album front-to-back, I'd personally want us to cover The Story So Far's album 'What You Don't See.' It's a banger from beginning to end and is such a pop punk staple. Edith and I both have such a deep appreciation for that album, its lyricism, and musicianship. We actually did a TSSF cover set once, and the energy was electric so it'd definitely be nothing but fun. - Ada
13. What’s a musical achievement from this past year that you’re proud of?
We are EXTREMELY proud of our latest EP “Worried Sick”. A little bit before we started writing it our world had almost completely fallen apart. It was scary. We had no one but each other. Writing and getting the EP out was a very pivotal moment for us and our careers. The beginning of a new chapter that was and is all about digging deep, taking the power back, and believing in yourself when no one else does. Not only doing it for ourselves, but doing it our way this time. - Edith
14. What’s next?
Touring and connecting with our audience is always at the forefront of our minds. We love being on the road and performing; we can't wait to go out there and do it over and over again. But what's actually next for us is complete world domination. We are thrilled to announce that we're working hard at our next album and have a new single coming out on July 24th called 'Pain In My Chest.' - Ada
